Are you passionate about connecting people with urban nature and being a steward of natural areas within the city? If so, we invite you to apply for the Nature & Trails Technician position at the Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District (THPRD) in Beaverton, Oregon. 

As a Nature & Trails Technician, you will play a vital role in the restoration of natural areas, performing trail maintenance using your knowledge of natural resources, and engaging with the public to provide information on the Park District and ecological concerns. This role entails outdoor work in a variety of environmental conditions for extended periods

Schedule

We are currently seeking candidates for seasonal positions. Seasonal employees will be scheduled for 40 hours per week, with a maximum duration of 6 consecutive months. Typical work hours are Monday to Friday, from 7:30 am to 4:15 pm. 

Pay

The hiring range for this position is $24.04 to $26.32, based on experience and internal equity. The full hourly range for this job classification is $24.04 to $27.11. Staff may be eligible for a merit increase at the end of September.

Key Responsibilities: 

• Performing a range of tasks to maintain parks and facilities. 
• Assisting the Nature & Trails team in restoring natural areas, including trail and natural area upkeep.
• Delivering exceptional customer service by engaging with the public and sharing information about the Park District. 
• Operating various equipment, including mowers, trucks, trailers, trimmers, blowers, pole saws, pruners, and hand tools. 

Successful Candidates Will Possess: 

• Proficiency in the safe operation of park maintenance equipment. 
• Knowledge of natural resources and their application in natural area stewardship.
• Ability to independently make informed decisions related to natural resource management. 
• A commitment to excellent customer service, fostering positive interactions with both customers and colleagues through professional and courteous behavior. 

Licenses, Certifications, and Requirements: 

• A valid Oregon Driver’s License and an acceptable driving record (see Driver Eligibility Requirements below).

Driving Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible to drive for THPRD, you must meet the following requirements:

• Have fewer than 3 vehicle accidents within the last 5 years
• Have fewer than 4 moving violations and/or vehicle accidents combined within the last 5 years
• Have no more than 1 DUIs within the last 5 years WITH the successful completion of a diversion program.

If you exceed the above requirements within the last 5 years, you will not be eligible to drive for THPRD. If the position requires driving, you would not be eligible for the position. Click here to view the driver acceptability matrix.

Note: Driving eligibility is based on moving violations only. Parking tickets, failure to have insurance, expired registration, and other administrative violations are excluded.
