POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for supervising and coordinating the activities of Nursing personnel during the night (NOC) shifts to maintain continuity for twenty-four hour nursing care.
SUPERVISION
This role is responsible for the overall clinical, operational, and administrative management of the facility, acting as the primary liaison between nursing staff, physicians, and families. The Supervisor ensures that high-quality, compassionate care is delivered in compliance with federal and state regulations, manages staff, handles emergency situations, and ensures the safety and security of the building. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Resident Care & Rounding - Conduct proactive and routine rounds to assess resident conditions, with particular focus on those who are acutely or seriously ill. Ensure individualized care plans are followed and intervene as needed to support optimal resident outcomes.
Emergency & Incident Management - Serve as the primary responder to medical emergencies, incidents, and accidents. Lead root-cause investigations, ensure proper documentation, and initiate corrective actions.
Staffing & Workforce Coordination - Manage staffing levels for the current shift and the upcoming 24-hour period. Address call-offs, arrange replacements, and ensure adequate clinical coverage across all units.
Communication & Reporting - Prepare comprehensive written reports for the Director of Nursing detailing overnight events, resident status changes, incidents, and any follow-up actions required.
Administrative & Clinical Support Duties - Oversee admissions, transfers, and discharges; manage clinical documentation; and audit charts for completeness and accuracy.
Mentorship & Staff Development - Provide coaching, guidance, and constructive feedback to nursing staff. Promote ongoing clinical growth, best practices, and professional development.
Facility Environment, Safety & Security - Ensure the facility remains safe, clean, and secure throughout the night. Monitor medication rooms, kitchens, exits, and other key areas.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration - Communicate relevant resident needs, concerns, and clinical issues to Nurse Managers and interdisciplinary team members.
Care Planning Participation - Contribute to the development and revision of resident care plans as needed.
Committee & Quality Involvement - Participate in ad hoc committees related to resident care, quality improvement, and employee management.
Clinical Assessment & Family Communication - Use nursing assessment skills to identify and document significant changes in resident conditions and ensure timely communication with families when appropriate.
Employee Injury Response - Take appropriate action following staff work-related injuries, including documentation and communication with leadership.
Resident Grievance Management - Receive, assess, and initiate the investigation of resident grievances, reporting findings and concerns to the Director of Nursing.
Emergency Preparedness & Drills - Participate in fire drills and lead disaster or evacuation procedures as required.
Professional Development - Maintain professional competence through ongoing education in nursing practice and management principles.
In-Service Participation - Attend, participate in and train all required in-services and training sessions.
Current, Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience
Bachelors or Associate’s degree or formal preparation equivalent to a four-year degree program and one to three years of relevant prior experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Proven experience in ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry as well as ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Proven experience with medical terminology.

In relation to established procedures, protocols and policies of the County, challenges in this position tend to be diverse, but are typically covered by precedent or established practice. Strong clinical assessment skills (IV insertion, wound care), knowledge of Point Click Care (PCC) electronic health record systems. Excellent decision-making abilities under pressure, strong communication skills, and a, proactive, compassionate, and "team-first" attitude.
