Position Summary

Contributes to physician's effectiveness by identifying short-term and long-range patient care issues that must be addressed; providing information and commentary pertinent to deliberations; recommending options and courses of action; implementing physician directives under the supervision of a registered physician.  

 

Education / Experience: A graduate of an AMA-recognized physician assistant training program that is accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission or Education for Physician Assistant. The PA must be a graduate of an AMA recognized PA training program.

 

Licensure:  RI Physician Assistant License.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Responsibilities of medication ordering:

  1. Written Orders: The PA may write orders according to the PA prescription regulations of the state, and may renew or rewrite orders previously approved by the supervisory physician.
  2. Verbal Orders: The PA is authorized to give verbal orders which need to be co-signed within 24 hours by the supervising physician.
