Maintenance Mechanic

Incumbent will serve as a Maintenance Mechanic in the Engineering Service at the Oklahoma City VA Healthcare System. He/she will perform the duties of a fully trained construction specialist, performing various tasks from written and oral instructions. Work consists of reading and interpreting blueprints, sketches, and drawings and performing material takeoffs for ordering various sizes of projects.

• Major duties of this position include but are not limited to, Repairs plumbing systems. Installing, modifying, and repairing new and existing utility, supply, and disposal systems. Repairs equipment such as sewage, water, oil, and gas distribution systems and water closets, tubs, fire sprinkler systems, and showers. Independently diagnoses, plans and completes projects or work orders involving routine repairs. Troubleshoots equipment malfunctions and failures and determines the extent of repairs and parts needed, estimated materials required, selects best work methods, techniques and trade practices and accomplishes the repair or overhaul. Responsible for selecting and safely using proper tools, devices, manuals, references and efficient procedures. Performs walk through inspections of buildings and initiates electronic work orders for deficiencies found. Responsible for measuring, cutting and constructing by using standard building materials. Responsible for planning, measuring, and lay out carpentry materials using typical shop mathematics for complex and exact projects. Responsible for measuring, cutting, constructing, installing, repairing and modifying routine mill work, framing, benches, partitions, tables, furniture, and perform work to close tolerances, exact fit, and structural soundness. Responsible for interpreting blueprints, sketches, manufacturers' specifications, and technical manuals, and be knowledgeable in shop math and standard formulas. Perform duties from building plans, blueprints, and sketches, to plan and lay out the routing, placement, slant, slope, fall, and proper operation, of systems and equipment, as well as uses tools and equipment such as plumb bobs, mercury gauges, dividers, closet augers, hydrostatic pumps, and lead pots. Responsible for interpreting the following...measuring, cutting, constructing, installing, repairing and modifying routine mill work, framing, benches, partitions, tables, furniture, etc., from blueprints or instructions. Skilled in the use of all common electrical hand and power tools and testing equipment as required. Responsible for operate and use a wide variety of specialty woodworking machines and tools, as well as operate and use a variety of tools by setting-up, adjusting, and maintaining tools to meet required specifications. Responsible for selecting and safely using proper tools, devices, manuals, references and efficient procedures. Repaired/upgrade and defined required materials (bill of materials), tools and equipment requirements. Responsible for planning, measuring, and lay out carpentry materials using broad knowledge of wood materials and substitutes, with general and precision woodworking techniques. Responsible for troubleshooting circuits, controls and systems to locate, repair and replace defective components Work Schedule: 7:00am - 3:30pm, Monday thru Friday Position Description Title/PD#: Maintenance Mechanic/PD11672A Physical Requirements: Work requires strenuous exertion in building, removing or replacing walls, floors; requires standing for long periods of time, working in heated or cold areas.
