This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME) Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification) Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting Major Duties/Responsibilities: The Pain & Addiction Provider primarily functions to provide pain and addiction services, especially evaluation of Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) and treatment of OUD, or individualized recommendations thereof, to Veterans as the Addiction Medicine expert of the Facility Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act (CARA) Pain Management Team (i.e., PMT). This position will serve as the facility Subject Matter Expert on care of Addiction for patients living with chronic pain, advising leadership on standards of care for psychiatric conditions in the subpopulation of patients living with chronic pain conditions. Provides ongoing outpatient care for assigned patients in accordance to VHA policies and evidence-based treatment guidelines. Performs consultations, including history and physical examinations during in-person, telephone and virtual encounters. Screens outpatients to determine need for further care and prescribes medications within defined scope of practice. Orders diagnostic studies. (e.g. x-rays, lab tests, ECG) and initiates/expedites requests for consultations and scheduling special tests and studies. Provides education and counseling of patients and families in preventive care, medical conditions, and use of prescribed treatments and drugs. Actively treats pain complaints and symptoms in substance use disorders in complex cases alongside other pain staff, in accordance to the VHA Stepped Care Model of Pain. Work Schedule: 7:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m. (negotiable)
