Ballpark Maintenance - Part time

The Ballpark Maintenance position performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance, groundskeeping, custodial, and operational duties necessary to maintain municipal baseball and softball fields, athletic complexes, and associated park facilities in a safe, clean, attractive, and playable condition. The position supports daily recreational activities, league play, tournaments, special events, and general public use of City athletic facilities.
Primary responsibilities include preparing and maintaining playing surfaces; dragging, grading, watering, and lining infields; maintaining pitching areas and batter's boxes; inspecting and maintaining fencing, dugouts, bleachers, gates, lighting areas, restrooms, and common spaces; mowing and trimming turf; removing litter and debris; and performing routine repairs. The employee regularly operates grounds-maintenance equipment, hand and power tools, utility vehicles, and other equipment associated with athletic-field and park maintenance.
The position requires considerable outdoor work and the ability to respond to changing field and weather conditions. The employee is expected to recognize unsafe conditions, protect employees and members of the public from hazards, and ensure fields and facilities are appropriately prepared for scheduled use. • Prepares baseball and softball fields for games, practices, tournaments, and special events, including dragging and grooming infields, chalking or painting field lines, setting bases, maintaining pitching areas and batter's boxes, and performing other field-preparation activities.
• Inspects playing surfaces before use and corrects holes, uneven areas, standing water, loose material, debris, and other conditions that may create unsafe or undesirable playing conditions.
• Performs routine turf and grounds maintenance, including mowing, edging, trimming, blowing, raking, watering, and removal of weeds, leaves, litter, and debris.
• Assists with irrigation operation and routine maintenance and identifies damaged sprinkler heads, leaks, drainage issues, and other conditions requiring repair.
• Performs basic maintenance and repairs to fences, gates, backstops, dugouts, benches, bleachers, signs, trash receptacles, restrooms, storage areas, and related park and athletic facilities.
• Cleans and maintains restrooms, spectator areas, dugouts, concession-area surroundings, parking areas, sidewalks, and other public spaces associated with ballpark operations.
• Operates tractors, mowers, utility vehicles, field groomers, blowers, string trimmers, pressure washers, hand tools, power tools, and other equipment appropriate to assigned duties.
• Conducts routine inspections of tools and equipment and performs basic preventive maintenance, cleaning, fueling, and minor adjustments.
• Assists with preparation and cleanup for tournaments, leagues, City programs, and special events, including placement and removal of equipment, barricades, tables, trash containers, and other materials.
• Monitors weather and field conditions and assists with rain preparation, removal of standing water, application of field-conditioning materials, and restoration of playing surfaces following inclement weather.
• Identifies damaged equipment, unsafe conditions, vandalism, facility problems, and maintenance needs and reports or corrects conditions within the employee's assigned level of responsibility.
• Follows City safety policies and established procedures for equipment operation, chemical handling, personal protective equipment, traffic around work areas, and public safety.
• Provides courteous assistance to coaches, players, tournament personnel, spectators, vendors, and members of the public while maintaining appropriate City policies and facility rules.
• Assists other Parks and Recreation personnel and City departments with maintenance activities, emergencies, special events, and operational needs as assigned.
• Maintains basic records associated with inspections, maintenance activities, equipment, supplies, and completed work when required.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.

High school diploma or GED.

Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within the timeframe established by the City when driving is required. Must be capable of safely operating assigned vehicles, tools, and equipment after appropriate training.

Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience maintaining baseball or softball fields, athletic complexes, parks, golf courses, landscaping, or similar turf facilities is preferred. Experience operating commercial mowing equipment, tractors, utility vehicles, infield grooming equipment, and irrigation systems is desirable. Knowledge of athletic-field layout, infield materials, turf maintenance, drainage, and field preparation is also preferred.Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Knowledge of basic grounds, turf, landscaping, and athletic-field maintenance practices; safe operation of hand and power tools; basic preventive maintenance; workplace safety practices; and proper use of personal protective equipment.

Ability to learn baseball and softball field dimensions and preparation procedures; safely operate maintenance equipment; follow oral and written instructions; work independently and as part of a crew; prioritize assignments according to facility schedules; recognize hazards; communicate effectively with employees and the public; and perform work accurately with limited supervision.

Essential physical demands include frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, grasping, and repetitive movement. The employee must be able to perform strenuous physical activity outdoors and lift, carry, push, or move tools, equipment, field materials, bags of conditioning products, bases, and other maintenance supplies. Duties may require lifting and carrying approximately 50 pounds independently and heavier items with assistance or appropriate equipment.

Work Environment
Work is performed primarily outdoors at municipal baseball and softball fields, athletic complexes, parks, and associated facilities. The employee is regularly exposed to heat, cold, humidity, rain, wind, sunlight, dust, pollen, insects, mud, uneven terrain, grass, noise, vibration, moving equipment, and other conditions associated with outdoor grounds maintenance.
The position may involve exposure to fuels, lubricants, cleaning products, fertilizers, field-conditioning materials, and other substances used in park maintenance. Appropriate safety procedures and personal protective equipment must be used as required.
Work frequently occurs around players, spectators, vehicles, maintenance equipment, and members of the general public, requiring continuous awareness of surrounding conditions.
