The Registered Nurse Cardiac Catheterization / Electrophysiology Laboratory (CCL/EP) position is responsible for providing competent, evidence-based procedural care to assigned patients and oversight of staff, including but not limited to licensed vocational/practical nurses and/or health technicians/nursing assistants, as appropriate in the pre/post procedural setting. The CCL/EP RN provides patient care, care coordination, health promotion, health education and coaching.

• The Registered Nurse Cardiac Catheterization / Electrophysiology Laboratory (CCL/EP) position is responsible for providing competent, evidence-based procedural care to assigned patients and oversight of staff, including but not limited to licensed vocational/practical nurses and/or health technicians/nursing assistants, as appropriate in the pre/post procedural setting. The CCL/EP RN provides patient care, care coordination, health promotion, health education and coaching. This nurse has experience with the situations in which they are ultimately expected to perform, integrating theoretical concepts, strong critical thinking skills, and exhibits a robust technically skilled practice. CCL/EP RN will only use approved nursing protocol to execute provider orders or will hold for provider signature Duties include but are not limited to: Assist in directing the provision of nursing education, orientation, competencies, and providing quality improvement and outcomes utilization. Delivers and manages the care of patients undergoing therapeutic and diagnostic cardiology procedures including both inpatients and outpatients. Assesses the patients' physical and mental status prior to procedures, educates on procedural and pre/post-procedural care, and documents responses to interventions, findings, and reports any changes. Partners with the patient, family, and interdisciplinary team to promote effective and safe transitions across the health care continuum, including the Veteran's goals of care. Provides peers with informal constructive feedback for improvement. Fosters a safe and supportive environment conducive to the development of healthcare professionals. Shares educational findings, experiences, and ideas with peers. Integrates evidence-based practice with clinical expertise. Participates in activities and strategies to sustain and improve evidence-based-practice. Functions in several roles to include, pre-procedure assessments, post procedural recovery, and assisting providers during procedures. Maintains proficiency on the maintenance, cleaning, and preparation of cardiology specific equipment. Recognizes changes in patient care situations and initiates appropriate emergency responses. Adapts to changes in the daily schedule. May be assigned call, in which the CCL/EP RN will follow all facility policies regarding response time.
