This is professional Public Health nursing work involving some additional responsibility for planning and implementing specific health care programs.
An employee in this class is responsible for providing direct nursing care to patients and consultation to professional nursing staff as well as for coordinating staff and program implementation in a specific nursing project or program. Work is performed according to department policies and procedures. Assignments are made by the Department Director as statements of objectives and considerable latitude in judgment is allowed. Work is reviewed by the supervisor through conferences and evaluation of program results.
1. Participates in planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of special Public Health programs or projects; supervises assigned staff.
2. Provides direct nursing care to patients or nursing expertise as needed.
3. Participates in staff conferences for the purpose of reviewing overall activities and program planning.
4. Maintains records and statistical data and prepares reports for evaluating program services and for program planning.
5. Assists in developing project proposals and grant applications.
6. Initiates and participates in professional and lay conferences and other meetings to exchange information on health care services.
7. Provides liaison and coordination between Public Health nursing staff and other department personnel as needed.
8. Performs related work as required.
1. Graduation from a university program in nursing approved by the National League for Nursing with specialization in Public Health nursing, or graduation from a state-accredited school of nursing supplemented by Public Health training.
2. Considerable experience in Public Health nursing work.
OR SUBSTITUTE: An equivalent combination of experience and training.
3. Knowledge of the principles and practices of Public Health nursing and the functions of other health and social agencies.
4. Ability to instruct and direct nurses in the application of Public Health nursing techniques; provide supervision, leadership, and consultation in a specific program; understand and interpret Public Health laws and regulations; develop cooperative relationships with community organizations and individuals; apply principles of learning and to communicate ideas effectively; accept responsibility for the continuation of professional growth and development; and recognize the need for and seek supervision or consultation.
5. Possession of a current State of Washington Registered Nurse's License.
6. Possession of a current State of Washington driver's license at time of appointment.
