This position is located in the Specialty Care Service, VA Saginaw Healthcare System, Saginaw, MI. This position provides support to the Associate Chief of Staff, Specialty Care Service in carrying out the mission of the service and VA Medical Center.

• Duties include, but are not limited to: Supporting the mission, vision and objectives of the service in accordance with the National, Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN), National Surgery Office (NSO) and local priorities and objectives Assuring timely and appropriate medical care for VA patients within the service Planning, developing, clarifying, implementing and managing surgical care policies and procedures Assessing and planning for the present and future surgical care equipment, material and personnel needs Implementing all appropriate quality assurance and improvement measures on an on-going basis Overseeing employee orientation, training and education Input to surgical staff professional practice evaluations May be asked to participate in facility special projects and teach Medical Residents from Central Michigan University College of Medicine and other facility affiliates as well as other Clinical Programs. Other duties as assigned. Clinical: 30% Incumbent is assigned to the appropriate surgery clinic and operating room. The physician, additionally, will provide inpatient and consult coverage and participate in shared weekend and holiday call as required. Incumbent is responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of patients with medical and surgical diseases, accomplished through ambulatory and bed-based resources assigned to Surgical Care Service. He/she actively participates in patient care through hospital rounds, morning reports, daily management system huddles, conferences, consultations and participation in other activities. Clinical duties also include: Attend/oversight of surgery outpatient clinics Maintain an active operating room, closing at least 125 cases per year Participate in the night/weekend call coverage as required Administrative: 70% Facilitates the overall VISN Surgery Strategic Plan at the facility level, maintains expertise in technical knowledge and manages resources and risk.
