Physician (Invasive Cardiology Program Manager)

The WG Bill Hefner VA Medical Center is seeking a Physician-Invasive Cardiology Program Manager for the Kernersville (HCC) in Kernersville, NC. The Invasive Cardiologist functions under the Chief of the Cardiology, the Chief of the Medical Service and the Chief of Staff to ensure sustainable growth, quality and excellent outcomes for the Cardiology program. The physician will establish and maintain professional relationships within the service, and facility, which result in improved patient care

• All physicians- Invasive Cardiologist assigned to Medicine Service will ensure compliance with all health care system policies, rules, regulations, and by-laws. The Invasive Cardiologist will posses patient care and procedural skills and participate in various facility programs designed to enhance and improve the delivery of patient care services, such as Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) teams, as assigned by Chief, Medicine Service. Duties include but are not limited to: Administrative: Serves as Medical Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Lab Serves as acting chief of the section (as needed) Provides guidance, support and supervision to the nurse practitioners, medical students and residents (interns and/or fellows) assigned to Medicine Service/subspecialty services and clinics Participates in and attends medical center committees and/or teams Approves and disapproves leave for other staff physicians, technical and nursing personnel, and/or clerical personnel under his/her supervision Participates in the selection of new staff; prepares for promotions, and recognition of the outstanding performance of staff he/she supervises Revises work schedules and assignments on short notice to meet frequent, abrupt, and unpredictable changes in prescribed workloads and deadlines Clinical: Provides quality patient-centered cardiovascular care to both inpatients and outpatients for adults as assigned by Chief, Medicine Service and/or Chief Cardiology Section Performs cardiac catheterization procedures Facilitate the delivery of appropriate patient care in collaboration with other health professionals, medical center staff, and management Participates as a peer reviewer process when requested. Participates in multidisciplinary activities involving the treatment plan and discharge plans of patients admitted to the Medicine bed services. Exhibits leadership in initiating changes in patient care programs based on current concepts and finding from research and studies. Integrates patient care activities on Medicine Services and other patient care programs at the medical center and in the community Diagnose and treat patients with cardiovascular disease such as: coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease, cardiomyopathy, heart failure, cardiac arrhythmias, and peripheral vascular disease Completes all medical record documentation in CPRS in a timely manner, including view alerts and encounter completion. Includes patient/family/significant other/health care provider in establishing realistic, measurable goals related to health education and treatment plan Implements clinical practice guidelines and protocols for patients with complex medical care needs Utilizes problem-solving methodologies to resolve problems impacting patient care or staff performance Plans, implements, and evaluates care based on age-specific requirements of the patient Develops the initial plan of care and acts as a leader in developing standards of care Identifies acute/non-acute/chronic health problems Academic: (Applies only to staff physicians with Wake Forest faculty appointments.) Participates in the formal education of the residents, fellows and medical students by presenting teaching rounds, lectures, conferences, etc. Demonstrates and trains medical students/resident, fellows in medical procedures that are required to provide optimal patient care appropriate to their expertise Assists in the development and implementation of education and training programs for medical students and fellows and residents, rotating through Medicine Service and accountable Clinical Services. Research: Supports the medical Center-wide research mission Assists in conducting studies regarding treatment modalities, outcomes, and other aspects of patient care when appropriate.
