Forestry Technician I (State Forest Internship)

About the State Forest Internship:
The SC Forestry Commission is seeking eight qualified forestry students for its State Forest Internship Program. Assists with forest management activities including but not limited to timber cruising, timber marking, and inventory cruising.  Assists with forest product sale preparation to include establishment of sale boundaries, timber sales, and pine straw sales. Assists with marking of general property boundary lines. Operate light and medium equipment to maintain general state forest grounds.

Niederhof Forestry Center- 1 available
Wee Tee State Forest- 1 available

Who should apply?Candidates must be students actively pursuing an associate degree or higher in forestry, wildlife or natural resources management.

• A high school diploma and experience in forestry management or relevant work experience. 
• Must be enrolled in an associate's degree or higher program in forestry, wildlife, or natural resources management.
• A background check and drug and alcohol test are required. 
• Must possess a valid driver's license (Class D). 

• Employee must have working knowledge of forest measurements and timber cruising. Working knowledge of forestry management techniques and practices. Ability to effectively communicate in writing and verbally.
• This position follows a standard schedule of 40 hours per week, typically 8:00AM-4:00PM, Monday-Friday. 
• The employee must be able to lift equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. and work both indoors and outdoors in changing environmental conditions. 
• This position is subject to random, post-incident/accident, and reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol testing, as well as rehabilitation monitoring, in accordance with SCFC Drug-Free Workplace policies. This position is designated as safety sensitive.
