Facility Engineer

Salary Range: $26.06 - $35.90

Pay rates are determined based on experience and internal equity.

Position Summary:

• Under the general supervision of the Director of Facilities.
• Has responsibility for services at all LVMC Facilities (Acute Hospital, Comprehensive Care Center and The Champion Center).
• Organizes and performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled duties in construction, repair and maintenance of the hospital’s physical plant and equipment with or without supervision from the Director of Facilities.
• Must work well under stress or tight deadlines.
• Must work well with supervisors, co-workers, patients/residents, family members and visitors.

Position Duties/Responsibility:

• Repairs and maintains: plumbing, electrical, HVAC, ice machines, kitchen equipment, patient beds, furniture, vacuum systems, medical gas systems, emergency diesel powered generating and transfer cases.
• Performs general building maintenance including carpentry, painting, plastering, and minor construction projects.
• Assist with the Equipment Management Plan.
• Makes building rounds and is consistently alert to needed repairs, replacements and unsafe conditions.
• Operates a motor vehicle.
• Reads, understands and uses technical specifications and catalogs for the installation, repairing and completing preventive maintenance of equipment.
• Maintains logs and records maintenance repairs or alterations to equipment.
• Performs electrical safety checks on equipment, electrical outlets and fixtures.
• Performs inspections of the Fire alarm System including fire extinguishers, and sprinkler systems.
• Knows basic computer skills.
• Uses proper safety precautions and personal equipment.
• Follows all JCAHO, Life Safety Code, California Building Code, and NFPA guidelines and regulations.
• Occasionally required to work other than normal hospital hours as assigned including overtime, weekends and/or holidays.
• Frequently required to work on call weekends, holidays or as assigned.

Essential Functions:

• The ability to maintain a California drivers license and to be insurable by LVMC’s Insurance company.
• The ability to use Proper methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the maintenance trade.
• The ability to climb a ladder.
• The ability to have fine motor skills to use electrical/mechanical measuring instruments.
• The ability to have fine motor skills for keyboarding or written record keeping.
• The ability to do basic math
• Ability to follow simple blue prints, drawings, oral and written directions.
• Ability to respond quickly to changing demands.
• Ability to work alone and with very little supervision.
• The ability to be supervised.
• The ability to work as a Team.
• The ability to have positive personal interactions with staff, patients/residents and visitors.

Position Qualifications:

• Education: Education and/or job related experience dealing with electrical, mechanical, plumbing and structural engineering issues.
• Experience: Experience in public or health care facility general maintenance.
• Licenses: California driver’s license.
• Skills/Ability: Electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and carpentry.
• LVMC reserves the right to modify the minimum requirements depending on the needs of the organization.

Compensation details: 26.06-35.9 Hourly Wage
