Registered Nurse- Outpatient Staff Surgical Specialty Care

The Outpatient Staff Specialty Care Registered Nurse delivers fundamental knowledge-based care to assigned clients while developing technical skills. Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates care based on age-specific components. Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care. Administers medications and procedures per established policies and guidelines.

• Duties include but not limited to: Responsible and accountable for individual nursing practice and determines the appropriate delegation of tasks consistent with the nurse's obligation to provide optimal specialty care. Focuses on individual growth and development in practice with increased levels of self direction. Provides patient care, care coordination, health promotion, health education and coaching on wellness, disease prevention, and chronic care management. Ability to formulate a plan of care based on nursing assessments and Veteran goals of care. Seeks guidance on how to improve care provided to patients and families. Delegates elements of care to the appropriate individual based upon assessed needs, condition, and safety of the patient. Brings principles and theory with the application of critical thinking skills. Responsible for providing competent, evidenced-based specialty care to assigned surgical and non-surgical patients and oversight of licensed vocational nurses/nursing assistants, as appropriate to the clinic setting. Required to provide post-op care, wound care, or any other nursing interventions as permitted by the governing licensing authorities and/or Veteran Health Administration. Must train and maintain competency in set-up and break down of minor procedures. Order labs, supplies, and prosthetic items per nursing protocol policy. Expected to float to other areas as needed and is required to have basic knowledge and competency in that area.
