The Fort Harrison Montana VA is currently recruiting for a physician to fill our part-time (20 hours per week) Hospitalist position.

The Hospitalist Staff Physician is direct patient care position responsible for carrying out operations of the Hospitalist Section of the Medicine Service. The staff physician reports directly to and collaborates with the Section Chief to determine the mission and objectives of the Section. In addition to clinical matters, the Staff Physician participates in education and training activities within the Service. NOTE: Actual salary will be pro-rated based on actual hours worked. Duties include but are not limited to: · Serve as an attending medicine physician on the hospitalist service at VA MT with duties that include: admissions, daily rounds for direct patient care, all indicated routine medical and critical care procedures, coordinate specialty service consults, arrange discharges and post-acute care coordination · Coordinate transfers to and from tertiary care centers for specialty care unavailable at VA MT and work cooperatively with remote/telemetry physician specialists · Arrange transfers to Fort Harrison VA from the community hospitals across the state of MT following acute stabilization of the veterans at the community facility. · Coordinate post-acute care admissions to and from the community extended care facilities (SNF, Acute Rehab, NH and LTAC). · Serve as the MOD (Medical Officer of the Day) for VA MT during weekend, holiday, evening and night hours (WHEN). Responsibilities and authority are consistent with the Acting Chief of Staff during "non-business" hours. Hospitalists rotate equally through all necessary duty hours to cover the inpatient service around the-clock and every day of the year. Additional On-Call duties are expected on a rotating basis during WHEN hours to cover emergencies. · Coordinate all services for the admitted patients including Social Work, Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapy, Discharge coordination, Surgical care and ICU care. · Individually manage all aspects of care delivered in the ICU including but not limited to: Resuscitation, Intubation, Ventilator management, Central line placement, Vasopressor administration, Arrhythmia management, Medical ACS management, thrombolytic administration, emergency cardioversion and other ACLS interventions · Must maintain current BLS and ACLS certification and lead the Code Blue team for all inpatient emergencies · Serve as an integral member of interdisciplinary and hospital committees as appointed by the section chief · Provide Medical Consultative services for any inpatient on the non-medical services such as Surgery, Psychiatry and Substance abuse Recovery Unit. · Supervise and teach Medical Students and Residents and provide education to other rotating disciplines on the inpatient service · Coordinate with the Emergency Department for any Observation stay or acute IP admission requested by the ED physicians. · Work Schedule: Varies
