Registered Nurse-Surgical Services Nurse Coordinator

The Surgical Services Nurse Coordinator works directly with the surgical scheduler, anesthesia team, Pre-Anesthesia Testing Clinic (PACT), and surgical/procedural providers to identify complex scheduling needs of surgical patients. The Surgical Services Nurse Coordinator role is 60% administrative and 40% clinical. In addition to administrative duties, the coordinator provides hands-on-clinical support.

• Duties include but not limited to: Responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing and/or supervising direct patient care Assess , plans, implements, and evaluates care based on age specific components. Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care. Administers medications and follows procedures per established policies and guidelines. Influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team. Executes position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches to management of complex client care. Responsible for making daily staffing assignments and addressing schedule changes Works directly with surgical scheduler, anesthesia team, Pre-Anesthesia Testing Clinic (PAT), and surgical/procedural providers to identify complex scheduling needs of surgical patients. Reviews the surgery schedule daily to ensure ongoing monitoring and effective communication regarding the timely completion of preoperative testing, labs, medication changes, travel and driver arrangements, expected postoperative placement, and any changes in the surgery schedule with all members of the surgical team. Conducts telephonic collaborative nursing assessments, ensuring timely and accurate documentation in the appropriate note titles. Coordinates surgical case arrival times, follow up on Social Work Consults, and manage outstanding consults or orders, including Cardiology, Physical Therapy, Radiology, and Home care. Submits monthly case cancellation tracking data to the VA Surgical Quality Improvement Program (VASQIP) nurse and reports this information. To the Facility Surgical Workgroup Committee. Responsible for coordinating patient care throughout the continuum, education patients and families, supporting patient self management post discharge, and promoting factors that improve customer satisfaction.
