Registered Nurse - Specialty Care Outpatient

The John J. Pershing VA Medical Center, a Level 3 complexity facility, is seeking a Registered Nurse to serve as an Outpatient Staff Nurse in Specialty Care Services.

• The Specialty Care Outpatient Staff Registered Nurse (RN) provides comprehensive, evidence-based nursing care to Veterans in an outpatient specialty setting. The RN serves as a clinical leader, care coordinator, advocate, and integral member of the interprofessional team, ensuring safe, timely, and Veteran-centered care. Duties and Responsibilities Clinical Practice Provides and oversees direct patient care utilizing the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation). Administers medications and performs clinical procedures following VA policy, ANA Standards of Nursing Practice, and local protocols. Delivers expert nursing care to Veterans with complex health needs and adjusts care plans based on clinical judgment and patient response. Applies sound clinical judgment to guide staff in clinical decision-making and evaluating care outcomes. Care Coordination & Veteran Experience Coordinates care across the continuum with emphasis on patient education, self-management support, and improved Veteran satisfaction. Identifies and resolves issues related to care access, timeliness, navigation, workflow, and environment of care. Incorporates patient, family, and caregiver values into care delivery with cultural sensitivity and respect. Serves as a patient advocate to enhance safety, satisfaction, and overall care experience. Interprofessional Collaboration & Leadership Communicates and collaborates effectively with members of the interprofessional team to achieve evidence-based, data-driven outcomes. Participates in team conferences, care planning, and case discussions to ensure coordinated, holistic care. Supports a positive team culture by encouraging professional development, integrating diverse perspectives, and modeling respectful communication. Quality, Safety & Professional Standards Actively participates in unit and program quality improvement initiatives and customer service efforts. Serves as a resource for addressing ethical issues and concerns raised by patients, caregivers, or staff. Promotes High Reliability Organization principles and demonstrates I CARE values in all interactions. Ensures compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards related to outpatient specialty care. Customer Service Provides courteous, respectful, and professional communication with Veterans, visitors, volunteers, and staff. Furnishes accurate, consistent information according to established VA policies and procedures. Manages conflict constructively to maintain a safe and supportive care environment. Preferred Experience: Minimum three years of successful clinical nursing practice in surgical ambulatory care or outpatient wound care. Experience in patient care management is preferred.
