The Behavioral Health Care Line (BHCL) at New Mexico VA Health Care System (NMVAHCS) is one of the largest clinical care lines within the Southwest Region Veterans Integrated Service Network. The BHCL provides medical and mental health services to Veterans state-wide and the VA catchment area of SW Colorado. The facility is located on a beautiful and well maintained campus in Albuquerque in view of the Sandia Mountains and the nearby Sandia National Laboratories.

• Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional The Behavioral Health Care Line is seeking a Social Worker for a position in the Substance Use Disorders (SUD) Clinic. The SUD program is well-established and provides behavioral health consultation, assessment, and intervention in collaboration with clinics and providers across the facility. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a multidisciplinary team that provides consultative and treatment services to providers and programs within the medical group. The primary role of the incumbent will be to provide direct clinical, to include psychosocial assessment and treatment planning, brief evidence-based individual and group therapies, crisis intervention, some case management, as well as telephonic assessment and triaging. The incumbent for this position will be able to provide a full range of psychosocial assessments, and interventions within the scope of social work practice. Additionally, the incumbent should possess or be willing to receive training on a variety of evidenced-based treatments (EBTs) relevant to the critical work performed in the Substance Use Disorders Clinic, including CBT for SUD and Motivational Interviewing. The incumbent independently demonstrates leadership, experience, and creative approaches to the assessment, treatment planning, and management of the complex mental health needs of patients in SUD and the Specialty Section at large as needed. Additionally, they are responsible for identifying and screening patients for the psychosocial needs outlined in their recovery plan. The incumbent must possess the knowledge and ability to independently implement treatment modalities, including SUD-specific evidence-based psychotherapies (EBPs), provide counseling or case management for individuals, families, and groups. When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade). Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time off per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience. Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child. Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.
