This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the position: Serves as Chief Electrician at a large navigation lock and dam site on the Mississippi River. As such, is responsible for operation, maintenance and repair of all electrical equipment and systems at assigned installation(s) utilizing voltages up to and including 480 volts.

  • Disassembles interlocking navigation and interrelated electrical, mechanical systems, subsystems, standby and related equipment to determine extent of repairs, overhaul and/or replacement parts needed.
  • Makes recommendations to supervisor when major repairs are needed so that coordinated effort can take place relative to temporary repair, technical engineering review, procurement of replacement items.
  • Responsible for the operation, maintenance, and/or monitoring installation of new and replacement units within the integrated system for telephone and public address systems.
  • Monitors the operation of complex integrated subsystems, analyzes operating trends, proposes preventive maintenance down time to assure continued operating capability, and recommends unit replacement or overhaul.
  • Conducts regular inspections of electrical equipment, tests and adjusts electrical systems, instrument apparatus and equipment, notes defects and performs preventative maintenance functions.
