Recreation Fee Technician

You will serve as a Recreation Fee Technician with National Park Service. This position is located in the Interpretation, Education, and Visitor Services Division section of Dinosaur National Monument. GS-06 Salary: $45,409 (Step 01) to $59,031 (Step 10). GS-07 Salary: $50,460 (Step 01) to $65,599 (Step 10). First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the step 1 rate.

• Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following: Serves as a front-line, uniformed representative of the NPS, answering visitor questions and explaining the area's recreational opportunities, including NPS interpretive services, concession operated services, campground availability, hiking trails, etc. Performs assignments in accordance with all NPS and U.S. Treasury regulations governing the handling of government funds. Operates an electronic cash register, computer, or Point of Sale (POS) system to conduct financial transactions to include performing opening and closing functions and issuing entrance receipts, tour tickets, permits, etc. Reviews and verifies the accuracy of operating manuals and/or standard operating procedures for the implementation of new and existing system designs and/or modifications. Provides assistance to the fee supervisor and/or higher-level fee managers in the implementation of new fee systems and procedures at the local level. Provides informal and formal training and education to employees, partners, volunteers, interns, cooperating association representatives, etc. regarding automated and non-automated fee processes, systems, software programs, tools, etc. Tests reservation system functionality in automated reservation systems such as Recreation.gov and report findings as appropriate to include approving or denying formal refund requests submitted by the public in the system. Serves as a technical authority for the resolution of especially difficult or sensitive problems associated with the collection, remittance, and deposit of fee revenue and donations. Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level. Physical Demands/Work Environment: This position requires standing for long periods of time, as well as walking, bending, and lifting of moderately heavy items. Mental stress and physical fatigue occur due to the high volume of personal contacts and the responsibility of dealing with large amounts of money. If applicable, extreme physical exertion may be required while performing search and rescue, wildland firefighting, and other emergency response duties. This position typically works at an entrance station, campground office, fee office, remit office, visitor center, and/or visitor contact station. Work is often performed in small, outdoor structures with open windows which results in exposure to extremes of temperature, rain, snow, wind, and direct sunlight. Park areas may be geographically located in areas of high elevation, rugged terrain, or dense populations. High levels of vehicle noise and emissions may exist during heavy visitation periods. Duties may be performed alone and/or in isolated locations.
