Assistant Director, Practical Nursing Program

LSU in Shreveport invites applications for the position of Assistant Director of the Licensed Practical Nursing Program (LPN). The Assistant Director supports the Program Director in the administration, coordination, and continuous improvement of the LPN program. The Assistant Director provides leadership in day-to-day program operations, supports faculty and students, coordinates clinical education activities, and helps ensure that program requirements, institutional policies, and applicable state and accreditation standards are met.

The Assistant Director works collaboratively with the Program Director, nursing faculty, clinical partners, college administration, and student support personnel to promote student success and maintain a high-quality practical nursing program. The position may include teaching responsibilities in the classroom, laboratory, simulation, and/or clinical settings based on program needs.

This is a 12-month on campus position based in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Required Qualifications:

Qualifications from Louisiana State Board of Practical Nurse Examiners (LSBPNE):

· Hold a current, valid license to practice as a registered nurse (RN) in Louisiana.

· Meet the approval of the LSBPNE prior to teaching.

· Minimum of four years of experience in medical-surgical nursing or nursing education.

o At least one of those four years must have been as a medical-surgical hospital staff nurse providing direct patient care.

· Must have practiced as a nurse for a minimum of six full-time months during the three years immediately preceding application.

Responsibilities and Requirements:

· Proficiency with computer applications such as Microsoft Office Suite, Canva, etc.

· Supports program director with day-to-day operation of the nursing program to include but not limited to: Telephone communication with the public concerning matters of the nursing program, preparing material for orientation of students and faculty, supporting an electronic and hard copy filing system, assisting with clinical placement of students, and dealing with student issues and problems.

· Evaluate program, course, and student learning outcomes and adjust to ensure students receive what they need to succeed.

· Orient and assist new nursing faculty with classroom instruction techniques, clinical information and guidelines, computer and software usage including but not limited to: Moodle, ATI, The Point, ExamSoft.

· Counsel and advise students regarding grades and clinical/classroom issues and work with them to develop a plan to achieve success.

· Work directly with the LSBPNE to ensure students are ready and capable of testing for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) when they graduate.

· Teach in the Nursing Program by employing a variety of innovative and instructional techniques that will enhance student learning.

· Ensure Lesson Plan Books and other paperwork are up to date according to LSPBNE standards.

· Works closely with the program director and has the knowledge and skillset to transition into that role when the director is out for meetings or other responsibilities.
