VA Northport Healthcare System is seeking an enthusiastic Gastroenterologist to join its staff. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive care to include diagnosis, treatment, follow-up and education of patients with Gastroenterology conditions. The Physician will be responsible for performing standard GI procedures such as upper such as upper endoscopy (EGD) and colonoscopy.

• VA Northport Healthcare System is seeking an enthusiastic Gastroenterologist to join its staff. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive care to include diagnosis, treatment, follow-up and education of patients with Gastroenterology conditions. The Physician will be responsible for performing standard GI procedures such as upper such as upper endoscopy (EGD) and colonoscopy. DUTIES MAY INCLUDE HOWEVER ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING: Perform Endoscopic Procedures: Conduct diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including EGDs (colonoscopies), flexible sigmoidoscopies, polyp removals, and PEG tube placements under moderate sedation. Provide Clinical Consultations: Evaluate and manage inpatients and outpatients with complex gastrointestinal, pancreatic, and liver diseases (such as IBD, cirrhosis, and hepatitis). Manage On-Call Coverage: Participate in a rotating schedule to provide 24/7 emergency coverage for issues like acute GI bleeds or foreign body obstructions. Supervise and Teach Trainees: Mentor and instruct medical students, internal medicine residents, and GI fellows during clinical rounds and in the endoscopy suite. Review Electronic Health Records: Document clinical notes, review lab results, and place orders using the VA's electronic medical record system. Collaborate with Multidisciplinary Teams: Work alongside nurse practitioners, physician assistants, primary care teams (PACT), and surgical specialists to coordinate veteran care. Participate in Quality Improvement: Engage in peer reviews, clinical audits, and committee meetings to maintain hospital safety standards and accreditation.
