• Serving as a Marine Machinery Mechanic WG-5334-10 makes you a valuable member of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) team and mission. This position is located in the Office of the Associate Director for Training Ops (TOPS), Training Management Operations Directorate (TMO), Office of Charleston Operations (CHS), Maritime and General Training Branch (MGT), located in North Charleston, South Carolina. The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a Marine Machinery Mechanic responsible for troubleshooting, disassembling, reassembling, installing, adjusting, modifying, maintaining, repairing, and testing complex marine engines and related equipment. Typical duties include: Troubleshooting, disassembling, repairing, reassembling, installing, adjusting, and testing complex gasoline and diesel marine engines, propulsion machinery, generators, pumps, fuel, bilge, hydraulic steering, trim, and related vessel systems using technical manuals, work orders, onboard engine computers, diagnostic equipment, test instruments, and accepted trade practices. Performing preventive and corrective maintenance on marine vessels and associated components, including motor systems, fluids, filters, water pumps, thermostats, sacrificial anodes, sensors, relays, propellers, lower units, lighting systems, fuel tanks, vents, safety devices, gauges, alarms, and emergency response equipment. Installing, removing, diagnosing, repairing, and replacing vessel electronic and communication/navigation systems, including radar, sonar, GPS, AIS, VHF distress radio systems, transducers, control components, and related equipment. Inspecting, maintaining, and repairing vessel trailers, including brake systems, lighting systems, tires, bearings, couplers, and bunks, and ensure assigned boats, trailers, and related equipment meet safety, operational, and compliance requirements.
