Supervisory Biological Science Technician (Animal/High Containment)

This position is located at United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Agricultural Research Services (ARS), The National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility (NBAF), located in Manhattan, Kansas. The mission of the NBAF Animal Resources Unit (ARU) is to support all aspects of the care and use of animals at NBAF.

• Initiating and supervising/overseeing animal management programs that are specific to the needs of the scientists.
• Identifying and takes necessary actions for changes in proposed animal protocols and enrichment activities to meet the objectives of the research trials and general animal management requirements.
• Maintaining equipment within containment; strict adherence to recordkeeping; administering drugs, medications or other chemical agents; activities involving animal restraint; gathering of sample collection such as blood, urine, feces, saliva, etc.
• Working through leader(s) and staff, directs and coordinates work assignments to meet requirements.
