This Registered Nurse-Health Education Coordinator position is located in Nursing, Hospital Education at the VA Connecticut Healthcare Systems, located in West Haven, CT. This position is full-time at 40 hours per week.

  • The Veteran Health Education Coordinator (VHEC) Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing competent, evidence-based Veteran health education. The VHEC RN understands instructional design, implementation, and application related to Veteran Health education needs and training. This position will also serve as the facility Health Promotion Disease Prevention Manager. Duties include but are not limited to: Delivers a fundamental understanding of Veteran-centered health education and adult learning principles and is a lifelong partner that can practice flexibility to adapt or change learning strategies based on the assessment of health education and learning needs within the healthcare organization. Initiates and maintains documentation of health education classes offered to Veterans Facilitates recommendations for health education to improve offerings to Veterans and their families Forecasts Veteran health education needs based on trends in the Veterans Affairs and in the community Develops entry-level coaching and mentoring skills to support Veteran self-management and well-being Utilizes innovative health education teaching strategies, assessment skiills and evaluation of outcomes Demonstrates leadership in delivering and improving holistic care through collaborative strategies with others Fosters a safe and supportive environment conducive to the professional development of healthcare professionals VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package: VA Nurse Total Rewards Pay: Competitive salary, regular salary increases, potential for performance awards Paid Time Off: 50 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 07:30am - 4:-00pm Compressed/Flexible: Not eligible Telework: Ad-hoc as determined by the agency policy. Current and former Federal employees must submit copies of their most recent SF-50 (Notice of Personnel Action). The SF-50 must identify the position title, series, grade, step, tenure and type of service (Competitive or Excepted). In some cases, more than one SF-50 may be required to show a higher grade previously held. This position is in the Excepted Service. The salary is based on the grade and step approved for the selected candidate.
