Assistant Nurse Manager - Acute Care

The Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) supports the Nurse Manager (NM) in overseeing 24/7 operations of an Acute Care nursing unit and demonstrates clinical expertise. Fosters team development, ensures compliance with standards of clinical practice, and serves as a key liaison between staff and leadership. Functions as a proficient clinician and is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing or overseeing direct patient care.

• Responsible for the direction and oversight of specific orientation, training, development of staff, and evaluation of individual staff performance. Provides coverage for other ANMs as needed. Functions as a role model, educator, practitioner, and leader. Influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team to remove barriers and implements new evidence-based cutting-edge programs/processes. Responsible for assisting the NM but is not responsible for independently carrying out the expectations of a NM on a routine basis. Exercises the authority to direct work, assign duties, evaluate employee performance, recommend employee awards, approve or deny leave, recall employees to duty, propose discipline, and to adjust their grievances, or to effectively recommend such proposed discipline or grievance adjustments for employees under their direct supervision. Engages in professional organizations to enhance leadership and career growth. Applying clinical knowledge/judgement to lead staff involvement in planning, decision-making, and evaluating outcomes. Contributes to the development of care delivery models and environmental design, ensuring evidence-based, accessible, affordable, and equitable patent care. Serves as a clinical expert and resource for staff, ensuring care aligns with policies and procedures, managing patient flow, responding to emergencies, and providing patient care.
