  • Serves as the department head in the Correctional Services department at one of the Bureau of Prisons most complex correctional facilities. Responsible for institutional security, inmate conduct and discipline, inmate work, control of hazardous tools and materials, safety, sanitation, control and use of institution vehicles, and key control. Also inspects facilities, observes personnel and inmates from the standpoint of security, morale and employee-inmate relations, and overall program coordination. Serves as an advisor to the Warden and his staff in the formulation and implementation of institution policies, procedures and programs. Must integrate these policies and procedures into the overall operations of the facility, as well as the correctional department, and keep management advised of activities effecting institution programs. Along with all other correctional institution employees, the incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis.
