The Deputy Federal Security Director (DFSD) is the second ranking TSA authority responsible for the leadership and coordination of TSA security activities within commercial airports and for the oversight of security in the assigned area of operation.

• This position reports to the Federal Security Director and assists in providing day-to-day operational leadership for Federal transportation security responsibilities at various geographical locations. These responsibilities and accompanying authority include tactical planning, execution and operating management for coordinated security activities, and other duties as prescribed by the Administrator, Transportation Security Administration and the Federal Security Director. As Deputy Federal Security Director for the Transportation Security Administration, your duties will include: Organizing and implementing the Federal Security Crisis Management Response Plan, including coordination with airport and airline management, other Federal, state and local government and law enforcement organizations, and appropriate private sector entities. Assuming direct responsibility and oversight for passenger, baggage, and air cargo security screening. Overseeing the implementation, operation and maintenance of security technology within established guidelines. Directing the activities of all TSA employees within their area of responsibility. Examples include baggage and passenger Transportation Security Officers, Law Enforcement Officers, Transportation Security Inspectors, and other support and managerial staff required to execute TSA responsibilities. Establishing the organizational structure and management systems required for threat identification, risk management, crisis management, employee accountability, and security of the facility, including all aircraft. Ensuring the advancement of the Threat Detection Blueprint efforts through assessment and maintenance of tools and support needed to measurably improve threat detection. Interacting regularly with Federal, state, and local officials regarding airport operations and security policies, procedures, and practices at the airport. Deals with local members of Congress and their staff, the mayor and other top city officials as well as top state officials as well as local media to promote and inform about TSA programs. Reviewing the development and deployment processes required for implementation of security technology options. Providing leadership to and setting direction for subordinate components, including spoke airports, as necessary, and assuring the consistency and coordination of policies and programs needed to accomplish TSA's mission. Overseeing the day-to-day operations of areas within their responsibility, assuring conformance with TSA's strategic plan and sound management principles. Advising, consulting, and furnishing input to the Federal Security Director and, as appropriate, to the Assistant Administrator for Domestic Aviation Operations in Security Operations and other departmental staff in the development, implementation and/or expansion of initiatives affecting areas of responsibility. Providing leadership to and direction for subordinate components, including spoke airports, as necessary, and assuring the consistency and coordination of policies and programs needed to accomplish TSA's mission. Overseeing the day-to-day operations of areas within his/her responsibility, assuring conformance with TSA's strategic plan and sound management principles. Serving as the Federal Security Director in their absence as needed. Managing third-party agreements from specialized service organizations, such as security service and equipment providers, other Federal, State and local law enforcement authorities, and specialized security professionals. Managing all TSA resources associated with the airport, including personnel, funds, equipment, and information. Supporting EEO principles in the workplace. Demonstrates ability to treat all employees in a fair and equitable manner. Provides input to the identification and resolution of EEO problems. Maintaining a work environment supportive of positive human relations and open communication between employees and managers. Responsible for assuring employees can effectively contribute to the accomplishment of division, service, and TSA goals and objectives. Ensures that employees are given a real and continuing opportunity to influence their work environment and are able to participate in discussions related to the methods of accomplishment. Provides assistance and guidance, as required, to fellow employees in their professional development. Responsibility for the efficient management and safeguarding of resources and ensuring internal controls meet agency standards.
