This announcement has been extended to now close on September 14, 2026. You will serve as a Maintenance Worker for the Modoc National Wildlife Refuge. The primary purpose of this position is to perform a variety of intermediate construction, rehabilitation and maintenance work. First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the step 1 rate.

  • Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following: Conducts a variety of general and preventative maintenance tasks and repairs. Includes, but is not limited to, electrical, welding, plumbing, HVAC systems and general construction tasks. Conducts all tasks related to the maintenance and function of vehicles, heavy equipment, and machinery. Incudes routine preventive and corrective maintenance, diagnose malfunctions, repairs, and adjustments to vehicles, machinery, equipment, and any attachments. Operates a variety of types of heavy equipment for earth moving and facilities maintenance including, but not limited to, farm-type tractors, backhoe, loaders, excavators, bulldozers, and forklifts. Implements may include mowers, augers, plows sprayers, discs, etc. Applies pesticides using tractor mounted equipment, and off-road vehicles. Operates a variety of motor vehicles including tactor trailers, truck and trailer combination, stake and dump trucks. Keeps written records of all vehicle and facilities maintenance projects, documents maintenance actions, and logs projects into computer systems.
