SCHEDULE: Weekend availability required.

JOB SUMMARY

This is a part-time contractual position that is grant-funded with flexible hours to include weekends based on program needs. Employees may be subject to call-in and occasional extended hour duties.

The Certified Medication Technician (CMT) monitors and provides nursing care for incarcerated individuals participating in the Medication Assistant Treatment (MAT) program at Queen Anne’s County Detention Center, in collaboration with Queen Anne’s County Health Department and the University Medical Program
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The CMT performs a variety of duties to support the Registered Nurse in providing direct care to incarcerated individuals in the Detention Facility.

Assist in providing general nursing care to incarcerated individuals in a correctional institution participating in the MAT program.

Administer prescribed medications and treatments under the supervision of a registered nurse, in accordance with approved nursing techniques.

Monitor the health status of patients and report findings to the supervising nurse.

Assist in observing, evaluating, and documenting the effects of nursing measures, and communicate any necessary revisions to the supervising nurse.
 
Assist in the provision of Jail Opioid Telehealth services in collaboration with University of Maryland, including the daily administration of prescribed medication.

Assist the MAT Program coordinator in maintaining records for grant payment purposes.

Encourage and assist patients in understanding their current health status and developing self-care measures, under the guidance of the supervising nurse.

Provide appropriate referrals and follow-up services as directed by the supervising nurse.

Maintain accurate documentation and record-keeping as directed by the supervising nurse.

Support effective working relationships with community health, welfare, and educational agencies, as well as with staff and administration at the Queen Anne’s County Detention Center.



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Ability to maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work activities, skill in written and verbal communication. Availability for flexible working hours to include weekends based on program needs. Ability to perform other related duties as required.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Current certification as a Medication Technician by the Maryland Board of Nursing.
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification. Possession of a Class C Maryland Motor Vehicle Operator’s License (or the equivalent from another issuing state) or the ability to obtain such a license within thirty (30) days of employment to position.

 
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Minimum of one year administering medication experience required in Correctional setting,

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally exposed to risk of infections. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but may at times become loud.

This position is 100% Grant Funded and will be terminated upon termination of the grant.
 
This position has been designated as an ESSENTIAL POSITION and may be required to report to or remain on duty when County offices are closed due to inclement weather or for other reasons.

An employee in this position may be required to work shift work, overtime, weekends, and holidays and/or remain on standby for a call back to work.

Employees must conform to applicable policies and safety rules.

This position is one within the Queen Anne’s County Civil Service System. An employee must serve a period of twelve months’ probation during which he or she may be terminated without notice, cause, hearing or right of appeal.
