The VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System is seeking qualified candidates for a full-time Chief of Medicine role, offering a leadership opportunity to serve Veterans within one of the nation's largest health care systems.

  • Chief of Medicine will perform the following Core tasks: The Chief of Medicine must possess a clinical knowledge that provides the ability to manage these programs, specifically with regard to clinical administrative functions, customer satisfaction, quality of services provided, and efficiency of service delivery in the pursuit of furthering the VA's tripartite mission. The Chief of Medicine is responsible for planning, organizing, developing, implementing, controlling, and refining a comprehensive patient management/clinical support/administrative program which provides services and technical counsel necessary to meet clinical, procedural, legal and administrative requirements relating to the care and treatment of patients to achieve maximum utilization of patient care resources in a cost-effective, efficient, and timely manner. The Chief of Medicine is responsible for implementing VHA Handbooks, rules, directives, policies and regulations governing a broad range of administrative aspects of the medical center. In order to affect the policies, incumbent must have the skills in management theory, cost-benefit analysis, and statistical analysis. The incumbent will be committed to supporting patient-centered care with a particular sensitivity to Veteran-specific medical conditions. The Chief of Medicine will participate as a member, lead or champion of process improvement teams, leadership committees such as the Executive Committee of the Medical Staff, Professional Standards Board, Peer Review Committee, etc. He/she is tasked with providing active leadership and decision-making for the organization, is responsible for strategic planning, the budget process, and performance improvement initiatives. The Chief of Medicine develops and administers a formal, systematic performance plan for reviewing, appraising and continuously improving each phase of clinical/clinical support/administrative activity. Incumbent is responsible for assuring that services provided by this medical center meet the standards set by accrediting agencies which govern the quality of care for this medical center, to include, but not limited to The Joint Commission, the OIG, GAO, etc. In conjunction with other service chiefs, the Peer Review Committee and Professional Standards Board, the incumbent works to assure that any issues and deficiencies are corrected according to standards. The Chief of Medicine participates in the annual budget estimate for operation of his/her Service. Assists in management of the formulation of the medical center budget, including allocation of funds and recommendations to top management regarding staffing requirements, cost effective technological advances, equipment, projects, and supplies.
