You will serve as a Maintenance Workerwith US Fish and Wildlife Service. This position is located within the Department of the Interior, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Fish & Wildlife Service Region 3, Detroit Lakes Wetland Management District, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the step 1 rate.

  • As a Maintenance Worker (WG-07) your duties may include but are not limited to the following: Buildings and Facilities Maintenance-Ability to construct and repair and maintain infrastructure of duty station and all associated property. Equipment, Vehicle, and Machine Maintenance-Perform preventative as well as corrective maintenance on equipment used by personnel at duty station. Equipment and Vehicle Operation-Safety and efficiently operate all required vehicles and equipment to including those necessary for land management projects. Projects, Safety and Records Management-Keep written maintenance records for all equipment, documenting all actions and keeping a current inventory. Physical Effort: The employee frequently is required to perform heavy lifting and exerts considerable physical effort while using hand and power tools. Work requires extensive leg, arm, and hand movement, standing, stooping, walking, bending, climbing, and kneeling, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. The employee frequently lifts, carries, and sets up parts and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted, and over 50 pounds with assistance. The employee uses jacks, pulleys, dollies, or other lifting and carrying devices. Work may be from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, or high places, and in hard-to-reach places. Frequent arm and leg movements are required to operate controls, make repairs, and build items. Working Conditions: Work is accomplished both in an office setting (5%) and outdoors (95%). Works outside in all kinds of weather and frequently exposed to running water, fumes, dust, grease, dirt, and moving parts of equipment and machinery. Work performed outside is in a variety of settings where steep terrain, extremely uneven, rocky and slippery footing is normal. Temperature extremes are common. Work is regularly exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, and bruises, falls, falling material, or injury from equipment associated with power equipment or hazardous materials. Work demands conformance to safety requirements including the use of a variety of personal protective equipment such as: protective clothing, hardhats, hearing protection, safety glasses, goggles, gloves, steel toe heavy leather boots, respirator, and other personal protective items. Serious injury may result from getting caught in operating equipment, or from collisions with automobiles when operating on or near public roads. Work is generally done on stable flat terrain and construction sites, but may be also done on rolling hills, minor slopes, grades, rocky or soft ground, or forests.
