This position is located in the Architect of the Capitol, Office of the Chief Engineer, Construction Management Division, Construction Execution Branch. The selectee is a Wood Crafter (CNC) and utilizes Computer Numerical Control (CNC) technology to develop seals, signage and other engravable images in wood, plastic and metal characterized with intricate and detailed designs.

This is strictly a temporary appointment where there is no permanent need or permanent funding available for the work involved and that the temporary appointment is limited in duration. The duration of this temporary appointment may be shorter or longer, depending on the duration of the work or project. The temporary position may also be terminated at any time due to lack of work and/or lack of funds without any advance notice. As a non-permanent employee, you may also be separated for failure to meet management's expectations, with no advance notice. Tour of Duty: Night: 7:00 pm to 5:30 am or Day: 4:00 am to 2:30 pm (Monday through Thursday, Hours May Change Due to Operational Needs of Management 3 Vacancies are available either day or night shift ***Please indicate your level of experience in operating CNC equipment in your resume*** Utilizes CNC Technology Fabricates signage using a state-of-the-art CNC signage machine. Using CNC technology, develops logos, symbols and upscale designer signage. Utilizing computer programming discs, flash drives and internet images, selects appropriate programs. Performs complex computer navigations to upload web site based images for application needs. Creates patterns for nonstandard images and shapes. Utilizes the CNC router and similar devices to produce, logos, signage and symbols, thru computer programing, discs, flash-drives, CAD software and internet images. Uses, creates designs and fabricates high grade cabinetry, furniture, woodwork and signs using various CNC technology. An example of this is the New Hermes gravograph system and the IS 8000 to produce logos, signage, symbols and patterns/templates. Decorative Woodwork Performs the full range of wood crafting tasks, such as demolition, measuring, cutting, constructing, installing and modifying wooden or metal framework in order to produce framing, benches, partitions, tables and furniture. Constructs woodwork items that require working to close tolerances, exact fit and structural soundness. Fabricates and constructs high-grade wooden items, such as cabinets and furniture. Builds and repairs items that have intricate, precise and fancy features, plus details such as curved and contoured surfaces, book-matched panels, scrollwork, friezes, inlays and complex joints. Uses specifications, blueprints and sketches to construct the items. Demonstrates a high degree of skill and ability to work with close tolerances and exactness of measurements to yield precise copies. Designs complex, unique and one-of-a-kind carpentry projects, such as cabinetry and furniture with decorative woodwork, curved or contoured surfaces or complex joints. Plans and lays out work from blueprints, drawings, photos, sketches, field investigations and measurements or verbal instructions. Considers tooling, durability, cost and purpose of the items to be completed. Carpentry Projects Follows designs and lays out carpentry materials using trade knowledge of wood materials and substitutes and both general and precision woodworking techniques. Completes wood working portions of renovation, construction and movement projects. Constructs and installs various types of office partitions and walls. Constructs, alters, installs, maintains and/or repairs high-grade wood items, such as cabinetry, furniture or decorative woodwork. Utilizes knowledge of and must comply with all OSHA and Office of Compliance safety rules and regulations to ensure that work progresses in a safe manner. The position also provides or receives training, either on the job or through classroom training, to ensure the utilization of all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), etc. Performs other related duties as assigned.
