This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Major duties include but are not limited to: Assists with development, implementation, and maintenance of computer programs/files/systems to gather record, process and report clinical and administrative data relating to all elements/departments of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. Ensure communication to leadership and end users as needed. Assist with determining appropriate menu options to be given to new employees/new positions. Assists in design/maintenance/revision of laboratory computer operator user instructions for laboratory personnel and associated technical procedures and forms. Assists in providing technical and troubleshooting support for laboratory personnel and support staff/supervisors with computer related problems, instrument interfacing, and personal/dumb terminal computer support (hardware & software). Assist with computer applications: workload and recoding system, integrated quality control system, quality assurance/performance measure data pulls, computer downtime and backup plans. Evaluates the suitability of specimens for analysis, requesting new specimens if determined to be unusable. Prepares specimens for analysis, ensuring that the physiologic state of the specimen properties is maintained. Performs steps of analysis for a full range of standards, routine, and specialized tests including instrument maintenance and performance checks. Reviews completed work for clerical errors and unusual or unlikely results. Evaluates/Investigates new techniques and procedures in the laboratory. Makes recommendations based on findings to leadership. Responsible for the generation of laboratory results from the work area into the laboratory computer system and for the editing and verification of the results recorded into the computer system. Provide instruction and training of new employees and students. Analyze current workflows and process to identify areas that would benefit from process improvements. With approval of leadership plan and coordinate the rollout of process improvements. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:30am to 4:00pm Telework: Not Available Virtual: This is not a virtual position.
