Come Join Our Team! Medicine Service Specialty Care at the Salem VA Medical Center (VAMC) is looking for a Physician - Hospitalist/Nocturnist. The physician provides patient care to Veterans in the areas of Internal Medicine and Acute Care Service Line (Hospitalist) in the form of primary and/or consultative care. The position is located within the Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration, VA Salem Healthcare System at the Salem VAMC located in Salem, Virginia.

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME) Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification) Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting Duties include but are not limited to: Hospitalists/Nocturnists are responsible for the evaluation of all new admissions with completion of an admission History and Physical, or completion of the short-form admission note as appropriate. Each Hospitalist/Nocturnist is required to carry a facility approved communication device and respond telephonically or otherwise as appropriate. Hospitalists/Nocturnists may be required to provide general medical consultation to Surgery/Surgical subspecialties and Mental Health Services. When the required service or level of care is not available at our facility, the Hospitalist will be asked to make arrangements for transfer to a higher level of care. Telephonic contact is required in urgent/emergent situations Evaluation of all patients on the inpatient wards will be completed as appropriate, in collaboration with any residents, students, or fellows assigned to the Hospitalist/Nocturnist. Hospitalists/Nocturnists will be expected to supervise any residents, students, fellows, or teams assigned to their areas of responsibility. Computerized Patients Medical Record System (CPRS) notes, where applicable, will be required at least once daily. Obtain informed consent as outlined in local policy for invasive procedures including blood transfusions. Participate in all activations of the Code Blue/Rapid Response Team in all acute patient care areas. This may extend to facility wide when assigned. Discuss the treatment plan with patients and/or family members. Each Hospitalist/Nocturnist shall engage in furthering the education of medical residents, students, and fellows by role modeling and review and discussion of admission plans. Each Hospitalist/Nocturnist is expected to participate in any service or section projects to promote and facilitate research amongst both House Staff and Faculty. The incumbent will also participate in conferences, calls, or meetings related to patient outcomes, customer service, service improvement, or the like, as assigned. The Hospitalist/Nocturnist will represent the Section or the Service by serving on committees or task forces, as well as through service to local, state, or national professional service organizations, both inside and outside of the VA, as applicable and assigned. Work Schedule: Nights, 7:00 pm to 7:00am. 7 days on, 7 days off. Participate in attending on-call roster and medical officer on duty (MOD) coverage.
