The employee is responsible for initiating and carrying out a variety of administrative and technical duties in support of the Access & Office of Community Care (AOCC) Service Line. The employee's primary duties include ensuring smooth administrative coordination of patient care and appointments, along with managing logistics related to Veteran community care. This involves facilitating the coordination of care between the Birmingham VA Medical Center (VAMC) and non-VA providers.

Employee must possess the ability to communicate tactfully and effectively, both orally and in writing, to meet program objectives. The employee must be knowledgeable of the technical health care process as it relates to access to care; be able to communicate with Community Care providers to verify they accept VA patients and payments. The employee must be able to process consults following Office of Community Care procedures and guidelines and adhering to VHA Directive 1232, the Field Guidebook, Consult Business Rules SOP, Consult Timeliness SOP, and Minimum Scheduling Efforts SOP. The employee is responsible for contacting Veterans by telephone to validate consult requests and coordinates appointments with community providers based on the Veteran's preference, as appropriate. The employee is required to demonstrate the ability to use computers to perform a wide variety of recordkeeping, correspondence, tracking operations, managing veteran's PHI/PII in VHA databases or records. The employee must demonstrate knowledge of medical terminology due to the technical nature of language utilized by clinicians; supports patient safety standards by following the VA's policy to use two forms of identification-specifically, the patient's name and Social Security Number (SSN) which is designed to ensure that the correct patient is being treated. The employee must verify patient demographic information is accurate and up to date as it is crucial for effective communication and care coordination; frequent validation and updates help in reducing the incidence of returned mail and unsuccessful contact attempts, thereby improving overall patient safety and satisfaction. Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience. Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.
