Maintenance Mechanic

The purpose of this position is to serve as a Maintenance Mechanic in Engineering Services, at the Oklahoma City VA Health Care System. Performs the duties of a fully trained construction specialist.

• Work consists of, but is not limited to: Processing work assignments and is normally free to use own judgment and initiative in completing assignments. Maintenance Mechanic must use own initiative on maintenance and repair work to identify malfunctions or non-functions, then proceed with corrective action. Troubleshoots equipment malfunctions and failures and determines the extent of repairs and parts needed, estimated materials required, selects best work methods. Repairs equipment such as sewage, water, oil, and gas distribution systems and water closets, tubs, fire sprinkler systems, and showers. Independently diagnoses, plans and completes projects or work orders involving routine repairs.. Performs walk through inspections of buildings and initiates electronic workorders for deficiencies found. Measures, cuts, constructs, installs, repairs and modifies routine mill work, framing, benches, partitions, tables, furniture, etc. Repairing and replacing parts of bedside stands, cabinets, and hospital equipment. Diagnoses malfunctioning systems, apparatus, or components, using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem. Troubleshoots circuits, controls and systems to locate, repair and replace defective components. Operate and use a wide variety of specialty woodworking machines and tools. Repairs plumbing systems. Installing, modifying, and repairing new and existing utility, supply, and disposal systems. Work Schedule: Monday -Thursday, 2:00pm - 12:30am (10 Hour Shift) Position Description Title/PD#: Maintenance Mechanic/PD11672A Physical Requirements: Work requires strenuous exertion in building, removing or replacing walls, floors; requires standing for long periods of time, working in heated or cold areas. Must work on ladders, scaffolds, and roofs while sitting, kneeling, standing or stooping in an awkward position.
