Supervisory Social Worker (Service Chief)

The incumbent works for the Central Virginia VA Health Care System (CVHCS) in Richmond, Virginia, as a direct report to the Chief of Staff Office. This position has full responsibility for Social Work clinical practice, program management, education, human resource management, and organizational stewardship for a large and complex Social Work Service that includes multiple speciality care programs and VA Centers of Excellence that are highly technical and complex across the continuum of care.

• Duties included but not limited to the following: The incumbent serves in a full-time administrative position with full authority and responsibility for the CVHCS Social Work Service Line, including more than 250 Social Workers, administrative support personnel, and Social Work trainees. The chief of the social work service must evidence possession of supervisory and management skills. Skill in providing the full range of supervisory duties across multiple service divisions/sections, which would include responsibility for assignment of work to be performed, performance evaluation, section of staff, and recommendations of awards, advancements, and when appropriate, disciplinary actions. Skill in applying legal, ethical, and professional standards to social work practice. Skill in developing, maintaining, and managing social work services in multiple divisions/sections. Ability to ensure compliance with social work practice, policy, and accreditation standards across the continuum of health care.
