Position Summary

Under supervision and in accordance with established procedures and standards, performs a variety of tasks associated with Food & Nutrition services to patients, staff and cafeteria patrons. Usually assigned to a specific service area but is required to assist in various capacities due to workload and staffing variations. Handles food in accordance with department and regulatory agency standards and procedures.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Prepares area of responsibility by organizing and replenishing necessary food, supplies, and/or equipment. Communicates any problems to the supervisor.
  • Prepares and/or portions certain food items following the recipe provided and all other preparation standards and guidelines.
  • Serves foods; reads menus; portions and serves food in a neat, attractive arrangement, according to prescribed diet and or portion controls for tray line or cafeteria.
  • Transports food or supplies to and from designated areas on a timely basis.
  • Follows proper storage procedures, keeping areas neat, clean and orderly. Covers, labels and dates all food according to established procedures.
  • Performs a variety of associated duties such as ware washing, equipment cleaning, general sanitation and regular sweeping/mopping of floors.
  • Handles all food, service ware and supplies in a sanitary manner in accordance with accepted standards.
  • Operates dishwashers.  May utilize a variety of automatic and manual kitchen utensils such as choppers, slicers, toasters, knives, bowls, etc. Handles all such items/equipment in accordance with accepted safety standards.
  • Prepares, maintains and changes wash soap as necessary in three-compartment sink for pot/pan and utensil washing. Ensures that sanitation tank contains appropriate amounts and types of disinfectant. Stores pots, pans, and utensils in designated storage areas after air drying.
  • Assists with the preparation of special functions and other areas as assigned. Assists in preparation and portioning of desserts, salads and bakery items for cafeteria and patient tray lines.
  • Preparation/delivery of nourishments: Monitors bulk nourishments supply; rotates stock; prepares stock according to established par levels; delivers stock to nursing units.
  • Prepares and delivers special request and/or special diet nourishments to nursing units.
  • Participates in in-service training sessions, On The Job training programs, associate meetings and quality                          improvement meetings.
  • Cash Handling.  Adherance to Cash Handling Policy.
  • Performs related duties as assigned or necessary due to variances in workload or staffing requirements.

Education/Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 6 months experience working in commercial food service. 
  • Acute care food service experience preferred.
  • Strong customer service skills required.
