- As a Government Information Specialist, GS-0306-11/12/13, your typical work assignments may include the following: Receives, tracks, and responds to FOIA requests, ensuring that effective record searches are completed, FOIA regulations and exemptions are properly applied, and that responses are completed within established timeframes. Assists in reducing delays in responding to FOIA requests, provides status updates to requesters, and makes recommendations in the implementation and resolution of complex requests. Assists with providing FOIA training, updating web-based instruction designed for OMB managers and staff, utilizing FOIA tracking systems such as FOIAXpress, engaging with agency subject-matter experts, and consulting with FOIA professionals from other agencies. Prepares final determinations on what FOIA material need to be redacted, and notes the statutory exemption under which material is being withheld, and drafts a final agency response.
