GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:
Semi-skilled laborer position requiring basic trade skills and responsible for, but is not limited to, operation of light trucks, grounds maintenance equipment, hand tools and/or power tools. Also responsible for general maintenance of County owned facilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS:

Assists other employees with carpentry, masonry, and plumbing repair assignments.
- Carries out painting assignments with minimal supervision.
- Safely operates small power tools and equipment.
- Operates power (push) mowers, riding mowers, tractors, and snow throwers.
- Performs basic maintenance and repair work of County-owned facilities and equipment.
- Operates snow plows and spreaders, as required.
- Arranges meeting rooms for use.
- May occasionally act as lead worker in general housekeeping, maintenance, and minor repair assignments.
- Participates in training sessions as required.
- Performs related assignments as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Basic skills in masonry, carpentry, plumbing repairs, and equipment operation.
- Sound knowledge of proper turf maintenance for parks and playing fields.
- Qualified to operate trucks, autos, tractors, and other equipment used for grounds maintenance.
- Operates snowplows and spreaders.
- Knowledge of hand and power tools, light duty equipment and techniques applicable to the particular area of assignment.
- Ability to understand and follow instructions.
- Ability to accept and comply with County policy.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of three (3) years’ experience as a semi-skilled laborer in one or more trades gained through on-the-job training or technical school.
- Minimum of three (3) years groundskeeper and/or turf maintenance experience.
A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Significant standing, walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, and handling, pushing and pulling. Physically capable of performing heavy manual labor such as shoveling snow, etc. Ability to exert up to 150 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently. Frequently lifting, carrying and pushing/pulling of up to 80 lbs.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid Class-B Commercial Driver's License or ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment.
