Fish Biologist

Department of the Interior

You will serve as a Fish Biologist within the Department of the Interior, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Region 3, Marquette Biological Station, located in Marquette, MI. This position carries a code 4 supervisory designation, with less than 25% of duties involving oversight such as planning and directing work, setting priorities, evaluating performance, and executing personnel actions to ensure staff meet required standards.

• Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following: Ensures that investigative field activities and studies are conducted in conformance with standard operating procedures, applicable regulatory permits, annual teamwork plans, and as determined in consultation with other team leaders and supervisors. Utilizes sound scientific principles to develop studies and programs, formulate objectives, and establish priorities for implementation. Provides technical and administrative support, including planning work to be accomplished, setting priorities, developing performance standards and evaluating performance, providing leadership, and allocating resources. Coordinates field activities with other federal and state agencies, local public officials, the general public, other sea lamprey program teams/units, staff members of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada, and other agency personnel. Participates as a technical expert on sea lamprey in multi-agency task forces, work groups, and subgroups within the assigned area of responsibility. Provides day-to-day leadership, assigning and prioritizing work, setting performance expectations and supporting career development, conducting performance evaluations, and ensuring technical quality and compliance with applicable policies and regulations.
